I've traveled all across the world and US and have sampled lots of sushi. I can easily say that Umami is one of the, if not the best sushi restaurant in Florida. Chris is a perfectionist when it comes to sushi. You can tell from the quality of his fish and his Steven to detail. He constantly orders rare fish and shellfish for his customers. Uni/Mirugai/Toro/Branzini/Arctic Char, just to name a few. They also have a great Japanese beer and sake menu. If you're looking for real sushi, this is definitely the place to go to. Melbourne is very lucky to have this place here.

Excellent! Fantastic service and delicious Japanese food. I've had a lot all over the country, and this place is wonderful. Get the hot mushroom appetizer!

So I have continued coming back for more and have never once been disappointed. Chris is always getting new things from far away places and they are all amazing. Looking forward to the Hairy Crab next time.

It was suggested to me that I try Umami and tonight I brought a large group of my family. Upon arriving we were promptly seated and our drink order taken. The decor left me confused or maybe it was the lack of decor. Our drinks arrived very quickly. Our server was very friendly and helpful with questions about the menu. I ordered the house salad, miso soup, and an assortment of sushi. Others ordered kalbi, shrimp tempura, and sushi rolls. The soup and salad arrived promptly and were very tasty. It did take a frustrating amount of time to get our main courses. I can understand if this place was packed but it was just us, one other table, and the people sitting at the sushi bar. The sushi when it arrived was good but from what was discribed to me I was expecting much better. Others in my party mentioned that they were not impressed with the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice roll. I sampled the kalbi and shrimp tempura. They were good. Dessert was beautifully presented and I have never tried green tea cheesecake before. It was absolutely delicious. Very light with a hint of green tea flavor. All in all a good experience but I feel there is much room for improvement.

In from out of town on business and saw this location on Yelp and decided to try it. The calamari with sweet Thai sauce was excellent as was the Gyosa. For an entree I ordered the Korean braised short ribs and it was delicious. The atmosphere was charming and nicely decorated. My wife would had loved it. The hostess/waitress was friendly, gracious and attentive. Great experience and food.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Brevard. Fresh sushi, great service! The chef varies the menu, posts photos of the fresh fish and seafood he brings in. I recommend the Tonkatsu Soup, whenever he makes it again. Just out of this world!

We had the Corona and Bang Dang rolls. They were big, unique, and delicious! The Green Tea Cheesecake was a perfect ending.

We were there for lunch on a weekday and there weren't many diners. I had read the reviews and suggested this restaurant to my companion from out of town. I was a little concerned that the place was nearly empty! We were seated quickly, beverages were brought, and our entrees arrived in a timely manner. My friend who would eat sushi 24/7 exclaimed that it was the best he had ever had! We had a variety of things, all was fresh and expertly prepared. The waitstaff were polite, the food was first rate! I don't think it gets any better than this!

Wow. All I can say is wow. I'm shocked that a place like this exist in West By God Melbourne... I lived in Los Angeles for 8 years. I've been to little Tokyo. Ive never experienced a place like this in my life. I told my boyfriend, if we were in Heaven, I'd imagine this is what their food taste like! If you haven't been here, you need to get here! This place has only fresh food. Nothing is frozen!!!! And you can taste it. I'm almost half tempted to work here just so I can eat the food or possibly dumpster dive LOL!!!! Just kidding, j/k!!! But it's that good. Whatever it is you order. Food orgy in your mouth!!!!

Very nice little restaurant although looks small from the outside is very roomy inside. Very clean with a nice atmosphere however the furniture is on the low end. My rear was hurting after an hour of sitting and my reason for the 4 stars (lack of comfort) otherwise could had been 5 stars. We ordered a miso soup to start and it was really good. We ordered 3 sushi rolls we had eel crunch roll, softshell crab roll and a double spicy tuna roll. All 3 were very very good and decent sizes (pictured) the double spicy tuna it had a real kick with the thinly sliced jalapeños and its spicy sauce, stands to its name. They all were very fresh and with a very nice balance of ingredients, excellent composition and presentation (pictured). The wasabi was very strong and really good just how I like it. For dessert we had a green tea cheesecake, this was really good too. Not to sweet not too powerful it was served with a small amount of whip cream and few pieces of blackberry and blue berries that made a lovely contrast. The service was very good, attentive and the food was served very promptly.

Do not pass judgement based on the venue, you will soon be pleasantly surprised. By far this was one of my best meals ever and absolutely the best sushi I have ever had. The presentation, service, flavor and quality were all top notch.

They have fresh Sea Uni! Great restaurant and excellent service. Their sushi is professional level and the fishes are fresh. This is the only place I will go and have some "serious Japanese food".

First of all, I waited for my food for an hour. Food did not come all at once each one came after 30 minutes. Food wasn't even that good and overly priced. My last dish the server forgot to put in the order. Lastly I wanted a Togo box for my soup. The sever gave me a used box for my Togo. Overall, never coming again.

Super fresh and incredibly delicious sushi!!!! Possibly the best in town!!!! The BuriBuri Good roll is a unique blend of flavors that's super refreshing. The Yoga Flame roll is incredible!!! The scallop and crab mixture they top it off with is mouthwatering. The trinity roll with a little wasabi and soy sauce make it perfect. The flavor of cilantro and lemon wowowow!! And the eel roll is a fantastic spin on the tradition eel roll! Must try!!!! Will be back soon

We went again last night and decided to sit that the sushi bar so Chef Chris could recommend what sashimi we should order. I ordered the sashimi deluxe which is filled with exotic and unusual fish and it was delicious. My boyfriend just picked things off the sushi bar specials menu and had a few things that he never tried before. If you aren't sure what you want or you want to try something new sit at the sushi bar and ask Chef Chris what to try. He will not steer you wrong. I have said it before this is not your average sushi/thai restaurant. This is where you go for fresh ingredients and creative offerings. There is nothing else like it around.

Incredible sushi. The Corona roll is hearty, fresh and very tasty. Nice sake selection. Excellent plating. You're treated well from the time you enter until the time you leave.

I like Umami. The vibe is very laid back and casual. The food is good and reasonably priced. The only minor issue (if you can call it that) is the lighting. I feel like it could be better throughout the restaurant...more ambient. Other than that, good service, good food. I'd revisit for sure.

Not a bad place for sushi if you're jonesing. Had the sushi bento box. The gyoza had very little flavor. The Miso soup is run of the mill like every average sushi place has. The sushi was dry...not moist and delicate like fresh sushi should be. My guess is it was frozen or refrigerated for a while. It was disappointing. All in all, boring, mediocre food.

First time eating sushi in Melbourne. Pretty good and fresh. The staff was friendly however it was busy and service was a bit on the slower side.

Hidden Gem!!! Excellent rolls, Distinguished Gentleman was my favorite. Amazing quality sashimi and variety. Ask the chef what's fresh in stock! Absolutely the BEST sushi for at least 50 miles.

Loved the sashimi and nagiri! They serve the largest pieces I have ever seen!! High quality and nice people, you won't be disappointed!

Very friendly service, excellent quality, great variety, soooo good. My boyfriend and I dropped in on a Sunday evening for a late Valentine's dinner. We split a chef's choice Nigiri Deluxe platter and they were nice enough to offer to cut the pieces in half for us (and they were plenty big to do so). I had originally told the chef that I didn't like white fish sushi but he talked me into giving his a try. I'm so glad I did, it was way better than any white fish I'd ever had before...I loved it. We also had the Distinguished Gentleman and BuriBurigood specialty rolls which were awesome. After having sushi here, I can't imagine going back to any of the other places I've been. I can't wait return!

Wonderful restaurant. Very neat and clean on the inside and the waitress came to us immediately. The menu has a significant variety of sushi and appetizers which will make you want to come back more than once. The food came quick and was absolutely delicious when it came. You could tell the fish was fresh and everything was prepared just for our meal. The green tea ice cream was fantastic for dessert, will definitely be back!

Quite possibly the best sushi in town. We got the Bang Dang, crunchy eel roll and the DoubleDragon roll. Everything was amazing. We finished with the green tea cheesecake since we were celebrating a birthday. 10/10 will come back!

I had the double spicy tuna roll and crunch tuna roll. Both were delicious! Finished off with the green tea cheesecake which was presented beautifully! The staff were very accommodating. Great dinner!

I have been to most sushi restaurants in the area, and thought I had already known what the decent places were, but I can confidently say that I have found the best. The sushi chef/owner Chris is a true artist, with amazing attention to detail. Obviously the business takes pride in presentation, quality fresh produce, and customer service. We had the Uni appetizer w/ fresh salmon roe, quail egg, an amazing roll with sprouts (the name escapes me), and I had the Nigiri Deluxe. I was not prepared to be so satisfied. There is much more to explore, and Umami will be my place of choice from now on.

Awesome food! Our group got to try a bunch of food from sushi to kitchen food. I had cajon salmon roll, bang dang roll and green tea cheesecake. The sushi is too good for this town!

By far, the best sushi restaurant in Melbourne. And it may be some of the best sushi I've had ever. I've traveled around the world and I'm pretty picky, so this is saying a lot.

Great ambient, very nice service and fresh food. Chef was very knowledgeable. It was very nice to receive hot towels to clean our hands at the begging. This is a family owned businesses and very well administrated.

I feel like the individual plates we tried were flawless, but the sushi rolls were not the best I've had. The pieces were a little too big with a little too much rice. And the flavor on one, the bang bang roll with coconut shrimp was off. And the tempura in the rolls and desserts wasn't crispy. You have to have crispy thin tempura. We had the tempura ice cream and the tempura was thick and soft. I've had sushi in various states and countries, including NYC so I'm comparing to this. If they can solve the roll and tempura issue, I would give them five stars, because aside from this, the food was excellent.

Wonderful new restaurant. Small and nicely decorated. Service was excellent & the food is superb. I wasn't a big sushi fan, but the Corona roll made me into a convert.
